Employee Spotlight - Shelby
Shelby’s motivating force is helping others and inside the doors of Mountain Madness Soap Co. is a perfect place to do just that. For 6 months Shelby has been a delightful member of our team. I recently asked her what the best part of her day is she told me, ‘I like to meet people where they are and try to be as helpful as I can. I want to help them find what they’re looking for.’
Shelby is fascinated by the entire process of soap making, especially combining essential oils to create distinct blends. She’s the perfect assistant to help our customers find what they’re looking for. Shelby even has experience with soap-making, a crafting adventure she explored with her grandma. There are different methods that can be used when making soap. At Mountain Madness we use the cold process method which allows us to have a faster curing rate than other methods. Shelby experimented with hot process soaping making which, along with other differences, takes a significantly longer time to cure. No matter which avenue you take, there’s no doubt that soap-making is a fun mash-up of science and craft.
How long have you been at MMS and what is your position here?
I have been at MMS for a little over two months and I’m a salesclerk at the storefront.
What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is either pink or yellow.
What’s the best part about being a MMS team member?
The best part about being a MMS team member is being able to learn new things about all the products we sell and sharing that knowledge with our amazing customers.
When do you feel most free?
I feel most free when I'm outdoors either hiking or roller-skating.
Sometimes ‘it’s the little things’ – what’s one little thing about MMS you love?
One of the 'little things' I love most about MMS is the interactions and conversations I'm able to have with customers. Whether I'm able to help find a birthday gift, answer questions about our soaps and the sciences behind them, or help someone find a new signature scent, I always enjoy meeting new people and making personal connections with them.
What do you dream about?
I dream about visiting foreign countries.
What skills do you most often use at work?
I most often use skills such as customer service, time management, creative perspective, and the ever-challenging art of small talk.
What is your superpower?
My superpower is being able to communicate effectively with only my facial expressions.
What is your favorite part of the workday?
My favorite part of the day is putting together gift sets for the holidays or thinking up new decoration ideas for the store.
What’s your favorite flower and why?
My favorite flower is a hydrangea because my grandmother, who lives in California, had giant hydrangeas every spring and they have since been passed down to me to care for.
What color is your aura?
My aura is yellow and blue.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are roller skating, pottery, hiking, wildlife photography, baking, cooking, and tending to my plants and garden.
