Your Love of Soap Helped Us Help Others in 2017. Here’s How.

Your Love of Soap Helped Us Help Others in 2017. Here’s How.

In 2017, we strived to give at least 1% of our gross revenue back to the community, and you helped make that happen.

Whenever you walk into our store and buy your favorite bath bomb or your monthly dose of body butter, you’re guaranteed to smell good and support the arts, women’s health, the environment, animals, LGBTQ rights and empowering women socially and financially in impoverished Nations.

We can’t thank you enough for choosing us.

That’s why we wanted to give you a better idea of exactly how your purchases helped us spread awareness about important causes and creatively support others.

6 Ways Our Customers -- You! -- Helped Us Give Back Locally and Globally

1) You helped us “Save the Boobies”.

Save the Boobies Campaign

During a two-week period in October, we crafted and sold a bath bomb called “Save the Boobies” where 100% of the proceeds went to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Beyond just supporting them monetarily, our hope was that the visibility would remind our customers who have personally been affected by breast cancer that we’re there for them while also spreading the word about ways to get involved with the cause.

2) You helped us support Same Love.

We do our best to stand by the belief that you can “be the change you wish to see in the world”. That’s why we’ve been working with Julie, the head of the North Idaho Pride Alliance, for years and we wanted another way to publicly support them.

We have a lot of friends and employees that fall into that category, and we’ve always seen the struggle, so it’s important to us that we can support that. That’s why we created the Same Love soap bar, which has the LGBTQ flag colors with a heart in the center. We donate 100% of the proceeds, and our hope is that we raise awareness of this issue in our community and spark a new level of compassion and support with everyone who walks into our store.

We’re proud to say that the 2017 donation from the Same Love soap will fund a large portion of the Pride in the Park annual gathering this June!

3) You helped us champion the arts.

Emerge is a local art collective that encourages youth and adults to find out what they’re passionate about while also supporting the arts and local artists.

We love supporting an organization that helps foster creativity for community members and look forward to helping sponsor and attending their Day of the Dead Fiesta every year.

If you’re interested in getting involved, a great place to start is by attending their free and paid classes. They have everything from pottery to poetry writing.

4) You helped us save the bees.

Save the Queen Lotion Bar

Jen loves honey bees, and she’s passionate about keeping both domestic and wild bees around. Since bees are responsible for helping us produce ⅓ of our food and are major players in keeping our ecosystem balanced, it’s right to be alarmed when you learn that bee populations have been steadily declining since 1945 with 23% of the number of bee colonies declining between 2008 and 2013 alone.

That’s why we decided to create the Save the Queen Lotion Bar. It’s handmade with local beeswax and honey, and best of all, we donate 10% of the proceeds from each product to The Honey Bee Conservancy. They’re a 501c3 that both helps the bees while also working to make sustainable food available to underserved communities.

5) You helped us save animals.

All of us here at Mountain Madness love animals, but our sales associate Tyler is particularly passionate about them. So she proposed doing a fundraiser to support a local no-kill animal shelter, Power of the Paw, and we said “absolutely!” We ended up creating the Huckleberry Hound Dog Shampoo Bar and now donate 10% of each purchase to the shelter.

It’s important to us that our employees and community members know they can work with us to make an impact, too.

6) You helped us start a cycle of prosperity.

After our last volunteer trip to Guatemala with Hearts in Motion, we were excited to do more with their organization after being inspired by The Lovin Soap Project.

Later this month, we are traveling back to Guatemala, and we can’t wait to spread the soap love and help teach impoverished women how to both make soap from scratch and how to run a business sustainably and profitably. Plus, true to our values, everything will be made with locally and regionally sourced ingredients.

We’ll be updating you more on our trip soon!

What’s in Store for 2018?

Every year, we do our best to increase the amount of money, resources, and time we can devote to volunteerism and giving. Eventually, we would love to see our giving grow from 1% of our gross revenue to 5%. With you behind us, we know we can make that happen.

Peace, love, and soap,

Jennifer & Andy
