Our History

It all began back in 2000, in a cozy little kitchen tucked away in North Pole, Alaska. By day: family life. By night: notebooks, wild ideas, and batches of homemade goodness while little ones slept soundly in the next room.

Armed with local ingredients, a love for nature, and a whole lot of trial and error, we mixed, tested, and tweaked until something special started to take shape. That something? Mountain Madness Soap Co. - named for our deep love of the mountains and, let’s be honest, the slightly mad passion that drove us.

What started as gifts for family and friends quickly snowballed (Alaska pun intended) into requests for more. A lot more. So, we packed up our handmade goodies and started doing craft fairs and Farmers Markets. Ten years in, still making everything by hand, still committed to the planet and our people, we took a leap and opened a tiny retail shop in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

That little shop became our creative playground - a place to dream, experiment, and bring our ideas to life. Then in 2016, thanks to amazing support and growing demand, we moved into a much bigger space right on the main street downtown. The shop stayed upstairs, and our production moved downstairs (soap-making HQ!).

Today, we’ve expanded even more, with a separate operations and production center where we still handcraft every product with love. We continue to collaborate with other local makers, support our community, and keep the creative energy flowing strong.

And yes - if you see a '72 VW Bus cruising by or parked at a craft fair, that’s probably us. This isn’t just a business. It’s our joy, our roots, and our slightly mountain-mad way of life.
